United States-A Christian Nation
Look at the time we are living in today. We, as a
Nation, have demanded God to get out of our government, out of our schools and
out of our lives; we are now reaping what has been sown as seen in the
destruction of the family, eradication of morals, knifings and mass shootings
in our schools, teen rape and drug use at an all time high. This is most
definitely NOT what the founding fathers of our country had in mind…
*The Liberty Bell is inscribed with Leviticus 25:10
“…and proclaim liberty throughout all the land unto all the
*In 1774, The Continental Congress
opened with Reverend Jacob Dushe’ (Pron- Doo-Shay) with a lengthy time of
prayer and a 3 hour Bible study on Psalm 35. John Adams is quoted as saying,
“He would have ridden 100 miles on horseback to have not missed that time of
profound prayer and praise.”
*What was studied in Psalm 35? Verses such as: 9 And
my soul shall be joyful in the Lord: it shall
rejoice in his salvation. 18 I will give thee thanks in the
great congregation: I will praise thee among much people. 22 This
thou hast seen, O Lord: keep not silence: O Lord, be not far from me. 27 Let
them shout for joy, and be glad, that favour my righteous cause: yea, let them
say continually, Let the Lord be magnified, which hath
pleasure in the prosperity of his servant. 28 And
my tongue shall speak of thy righteousness and of thy praise all the day long.
*Almost all of the signers of The Declaration of
Independence were members of Christ Church.
*John Adams is quoted as saying during the difficulties
during the Revolutionary War in 1777 that, “We must fear God and repent of our
sin.” There was a call to the new Nation for a time of prayer and fasting!
*Out of 56 members of the founding fathers, nearly half
were graduates of Bible College.
*In 1782 an English Bible was printed specifically for use
in schools by authorization of The United States Congress.
*John Quincy Adams is also quoted as saying, “There is an
in dissolvable bond between Christ and civil government.”
*In 1778 John Jay, the first U.S. Supreme Court Justice,
asked ministers to pray over the jury prior to their hearing of a case.
*George Washington’s farewell address included the
statement: “Religion and morality cannot be separated from The United States.”
*Over 34% of the quotes pertaining to the founding of The
United States came directly from The Bible.
*In 1892, The United States Supreme Court declared that,
“This is a Christian Nation.” And, throughout the 16 pages of this document, 80
precedents are set for the preceding statement.
*President James Madison appointed Joseph Story, known as
the father of juris prudence, to The Supreme Court. Justice Story read the
unanimously agreed upon statement of the court: “Why may not the Bible,
especially The New Testament, be read, taught as a divine revelation in the
school and its general precepts expounded?”
*The “Free Exercise Clause” in The First Amendment
pertained to; The government had to protect expression of religion.
*The “Separation of church and state” actually came from a
thank you letter written by Thomas Jefferson in 1802 to the Baptist Church
thanking them for their support and expressing his belief that government
should not have a hand in creating a mandatory denomination. (i.e. Baptist,
Methodist, Anglican, etc;) This idea of “separation” did not originate from
Congress, Supreme Court or any branch of the government. The actual words used
were, “wall of separation.” This pertained to government protecting religion and
not interfering with religious activities.
*In 1856, The United States Congress stated, “The thing
that holds this country together is the pure doctrines and divine truths of the
Gospel of Jesus Christ.”
*Only in 1962, The United States Supreme Court ordered the
separation of religious principles from schools. (Things sure went downhill
fast in 50 years, huh?)
*In 1985, The Supreme Court then declared that even,
“silent, voluntary student prayer was not acceptable.”
So, is it any wonder that we are in the condition we are in
today? God is a gentleman. If we as a nation, continually turn a blind eye to
the principles and standards set forth by God, then He will surely give us what
we asked for.
2 Chronicles 7:14 “If my people, which are
called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and
turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive
their sin, and will heal their land.”
been the recipients of the choicest bounties of heaven; we have been preserved
these many years in peace and prosperity; we have grown in numbers, wealth, and
power as no other nation has ever grown. But we have forgotten God. We have
forgotten the gracious hand which preserved us in peace and multiplied and
enriched and strengthened us, and we have vainly imagined, in the deceitfulness
of our hearts, that all these blessings were produced by some superior wisdom
and virtue of our own. Intoxicated with unbroken success, we have become too
self-sufficient to feel the necessity redeeming and preserving grace, too proud
to pray to the God that made us." Abraham Lincoln 1863
